Masterson was a close friend of my
great grandfather, "Soapy" Smith. For at least ten years the two wrote
to one another, with the first known letter being in 1887 and the last
known letter in 1897. They were very involved in Denver politics and
election fraud together.
In Creede, Colorado (1892) Masterson managed the Denver Exchange where it is said that he "walked the floor" sixteen of ever 24 hours. He was known to have a shotgun across his knees when taking the "lookout" chair at the faro table.
